Twilight golf in Marbella: the rates and the light you get
A twilight rate near Marbella saves you €5 to €45 on 18 holes, but from 27 October a 14:00 start no longer leaves 4 hours 30 minutes of daylight before sunset. Until mid-January, a twilight round of 18 holes is a race against the dark, unless the club moves its twilight start earlier, as Cabopino does in December and January.
Below are the twilight rates that seven of the 16 clubs we covered between Mijas and Estepona on 6 October 2026 published, as we checked them on their own sites that day, and the daylight each start time leaves, week by week.
Which clubs sell a twilight rate, and for how much?
Price per player, from today, Sunday 11 October, to the end of the year. Full rate is the club's normal 18-hole visitor rate on the same dates, for comparison.
| Course | Twilight from | Twilight rate | Full rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Santa María | 14:00 | €85 to 30 Nov; €65 Dec–Jan | €130 mornings; €85 in Dec–Jan |
| Cabopino | 14:00; 13:00 Dec–Jan (with buggy) | €80 to 15 Nov; €70 16–30 Nov; €57 Dec | €98; €76; €62 |
| Higuerón | not published | €104.50 to 15 Nov; €83 16 Nov–31 Dec, buggy | €139; €110, buggy |
| Los Naranjos | not published | €136 to 15 Nov; €112 16 Nov–31 Dec | €177 plus buggy; €139 with buggy |
| Calanova | not published | €130 to 22 Nov; €115 23–30 Nov; none in Dec | €150; €130; €100, buggy |
| El Higueral | not published | €50 | €90 to 31 Oct; €80 from 1 Nov |
| Banús Executive | not published | €22 | €30 for 9 holes; €55 for 18 |
A few things the table compresses:
- Santa María publishes three slots a day: early bird 8:00–8:50, mornings 9:00–13:50, and twilight from 14:00. Until 30 November the early bird is €105; from 1 December it's €75. A buggy costs €30 at twilight (€20 for one person), against €40 in the morning.
- Cabopino gives the start time for its twilight offer with a shared buggy: 14:00, and 13:00 in December and January. That offer costs €98 to 15 November, €81 from 16 to 30 November and €62 in December; €81 again at Christmas (28–31 December). The twilight prices in the table are for the green fee alone; Cabopino's page gives no separate start time for them.
- Higuerón includes a shared buggy in every rate, and its page says plainly that completing the round at twilight is not guaranteed.
- Calanova sells one rate for early risers and twilight, and none in its low season, which starts on 1 December.
- El Higueral and Banús are 9-hole courses: El Higueral is par 36, and Banús has nine par-3 holes. El Higueral's rates are still labelled 2025 on its site, so check the price when you book.
Five clubs publish a twilight price but no start time. Their booking pages show which tee times carry it.
How late can you start 18 holes?
We take sunset from the formula the TeesDeSalida app uses for each course and subtract a normal round: 4 h 30 for 18 holes, 2 h 15 for 9. Spanish clocks go back an hour in the early hours of Sunday 25 October, according to the official calendar in the BOE (Orden PCM/186/2022).
Madrid time, at Santa María. The 16 clubs we covered around Marbella when this was written differ by about two minutes at most.
| Date | Sunset | Last start, 18 holes | Last start, 9 holes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun 11 Oct | 19:50 | 15:20 | 17:35 |
| Sat 24 Oct | 19:33 | 15:03 | 17:18 |
| Sun 25 Oct | 18:32 | 14:02 | 16:17 |
| Sun 8 Nov | 18:17 | 13:47 | 16:02 |
| Sun 22 Nov | 18:08 | 13:38 | 15:53 |
| Sun 6 Dec | 18:04 | 13:34 | 15:49 |
| Mon 21 Dec | 18:07 | 13:37 | 15:52 |
| Sun 10 Jan | 18:21 | 13:51 | 16:06 |
| Sun 31 Jan | 18:42 | 14:12 | 16:27 |
| Sun 28 Feb | 19:12 | 14:42 | 16:57 |
The darkest stretch is early December, when the sun sets at about 18:04. That is a quarter of an hour later than in Madrid, but it still leaves no room for a 14:00 start.
So does the twilight rate still work?
It depends on the club's start time and on how many holes you want.
- 14:00 starts, to Monday 26 October: 18 holes fit at a normal pace at every club above. Today you have about 5 h 50 of light from 14:00.
- 14:00 starts, 27 October to about 19 January: sunset comes before 18:30, so 18 holes don't fit at a normal pace. In early December, a 14:00 start leaves about 4 hours. With a buggy and a quick group you may finish; on foot, plan for 12 to 14 holes.
- Cabopino in December and January: its twilight offer with a buggy starts at 13:00, which leaves at least 5 hours of light. That is enough for 18 holes, with half an hour to spare, at €62 (€81 from 28 to 31 December).
- 9 holes: a 14:00 start fits all winter. On the two 9-hole courses, Banús (€22 at twilight) and El Higueral (€50), one lap of the course fits after a 14:00 start even in December.
So, in December, compare Santa María's €65 twilight at 14:00, with about 4 hours of light, against its €75 early bird, and against Cabopino's €62 with a buggy at 13:00.
Where the app helps
In TeesDeSalida, when you look at free tee times, the ones that won't let you finish before sunset are shown in grey, with the note "won't finish before dark". It's the same sum as this article: the sunset at that course on that day, minus 4 h 30 for 18 holes or 2 h 15 for 9. Each day also shows the sunset time for the area.
A grey tee time can still be booked; it just tells you what you're risking before you pay.
Before you book a twilight round
- Look at the date first. After 26 October, a 14:00 twilight start is a short round of 18, until about 20 January.
- Ask about the start time at Higuerón, Los Naranjos, Calanova, El Higueral and Banús, which publish none. Their booking pages show which tee times carry the rate.
- Count the buggy. Higuerón includes one; at Santa María it's €30 at twilight; Cabopino sells the twilight round with or without one.
- Check the season dates. Most clubs drop their prices on 16 November or 1 December; see autumn green fees on the Costa del Sol compared.
- Book with the club. Every tee time in the app links to the club's own booking page; we take no fee. For layouts and facilities, see golf on the Costa del Sol.
