Golf courses near Madrid during the Spanish Open 2026

This post is about something that has already happened (its reference date was 12 October 2026). We keep it as an archive: the details may no longer hold.

The Open de España presented by Madrid runs from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 October at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, and you can't drive to it. To play yourself, though, you'll want a car: here are 12 courses 20 to 50 minutes from the centre, which ones take visitors, what they charge and how far ahead you can book.

The Open in brief

The organisers list Jon Rahm, Sergio García, Shane Lowry, Tyrrell Hatton, Ludvig Åberg, Justin Rose, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Francesco Molinari, Nicolai Højgaard and the defending champion, Marco Penge, in the field.

  • Tickets start at €33 for the general public and €16.50 for Spanish Golf Federation members and under-16s. There are four-day and weekend passes too. Buy them from opendeespana.com.
  • Gates open at 08:00 each day. There are grandstands on the 17th and 18th holes and at the driving range.
  • No private cars. A free shuttle leaves every 15 minutes from the roundabout where Avenida Complutense meets Calle José Antonio Novais (08:00–19:00 Thursday and Friday, 08:00–18:00 at the weekend). City buses 160 and 161 run from Moncloa. Taxis and private-hire cars (VTC) can only use the Club de Campo's golf entrance.

The host club's own courses are closed that week: the Black course from 28 September to 13 October and the Yellow from 3 to 13 October. You'll be playing elsewhere.

Which clubs near Madrid take visitors?

Most of them, at a price. The table gives the published 18-hole green fee for visitors, from each club's own tariff page, checked on 6 October. Monday 12 October is Spain's National Day, a public holiday, so clubs that set a holiday rate charge their weekend price that day.

Drive: approximate minutes by car from central Madrid. Las Rozas gives its prices as a guide.

What the table can't say on its own:

  • Retamares charges visitors €120 in high season and €100 in low season; with a Spanish (RFEG) licence it's €75 on weekdays and €95 at weekends.
  • Centro Nacional de Golf prices for golfers without a Spanish licence at about double the licensed rate: €120 for 18 holes when we checked on 29 September, against €49 on weekdays and €62 at weekends with one.
  • La Dehesa is a private club. Almost all tee times go to members, with few left for visitors.
  • Aranjuez is a 9-hole, par-68 course, and the fee is for 18 holes. Air Golf Club is in El Espinar, in Segovia province.

Four more clubs are on our list but don't fit the table. Olivar de la Hinojosa and El Encín ask for a golf federation licence and a handicap for 18 holes; check with the club whether your home federation's card will do. Golf Santander doesn't publish a visitor rate; you see the price when you book. Green Paddock is a 9-hole pitch and putt you can play twice as 18: €19 for the 18 on weekdays, €27 at weekends and on holidays.

How far ahead can you book?

Each club opens its tee sheet a set number of days ahead, which we measure on its own booking page. By those figures, most should already take bookings for the whole weekend, including the Monday holiday. The short ones:

  • La Dehesa: about 2 days. Saturday opens around Thursday 8, Monday around Saturday 10.
  • Club de Golf Aranjuez: about 3 days. Saturday opens around Wednesday 7, Monday around Friday 9.
  • El Encín: 6 to 8 days in our measurements, so the whole weekend should already be open.

At the other end, Centro Nacional de Golf opens about 90 days ahead and Air Golf Club a full year. We measured these on 28 September and 1 October. Treat them as approximate: some have shifted between measurements.

How busy was Saturday morning?

We read the free tee times on Monday 5 October at 17:34 (Madrid time) for Saturday 10 October: two players, 18 holes, teeing off before 11:00. There were 23, at three clubs:

ClubFree tee timesPer player
Green Paddock12, 09:00 to 10:50€27
El Robledal Golf7, 09:00 to 10:50€42
Retamares4, 08:20 to 10:40€89

La Dehesa and Aranjuez hadn't opened Saturday yet. The other seven clubs had nothing free for two before 11:00. That was two days before this post went up, and it changes with every booking and cancellation, so check live before you plan around it. One more thing it shows: the online price can differ from the published tariff. El Robledal was asking €42 against its €52 weekend rate.

Getting there by car

All 12 clubs are an easy drive from central Madrid: Olivar de la Hinojosa and Centro Nacional de Golf about 20 minutes, Las Rozas and Golf Santander about 25, and the furthest (El Robledal, La Herrería, Aranjuez) about 50. Every club guide on this site has a directions link straight to the clubhouse.

Before you book

  • Bring your licence and handicap. Several clubs ask for them, and at Centro Nacional de Golf a Spanish licence roughly halves the price.
  • Budget for a buggy. Where it's published, it's extra: €25 at Aranjuez, €30 at Air Golf and El Robledal, €32 at Olivar and El Encín, €35 at La Dehesa and La Herrería, €38 at Retamares.
  • Book direct. TeesDeSalida shows the free tee times at all 12 Madrid courses on one screen, and every tee time takes you to the club's own booking page. There's an English switch at the top.
